Sore Wrist

If your injured wrist is: Sore swollen, and bruised.  Not deformed.  And you can move it a bit.

It might be one of several things.

Here are 3 of the most common:

Fracture of the Distal Radius

You could have a crack in the end of the radius bone (distal radius)

The most troublesome injury is a fracture of the scaphoid bone

A small fleck of the triquetral bone (triquetral avulsion fracture) is a benign wrist sprain

Issues to consider in treatment:

  • Distal radius fracture: Could heal with a bit of a bend if it's more than a crack
  • Scaphoid fracture: Needs protection and care to be sure it heals
  • Wrist sprain / triquetral avulsion fracture:  Good prognosis.  Improves for 1 year.  Stiffness is the main problem to avoid so stretching is important.
