Intersection Syndrome

How Does it Feel?

Pain with wrist motion on the back of your wrist and forearm. The main spot is about a third of the way up to your elbow. You will see some swelling in this area. Put your hand over it and move your wrist. You should feel a creaking feeling.

What Causes it?

Most people get intersection syndrome when being very active with their wrists. Most often it is an activity they don't usually do. An example would be paddling a canoe all weekend when camping.

How is it Treated?

Intersection syndrome hurts a lot, but it goes away in 1-2 weeks. Splinting the wrist, pain relievers like ibuprofen or acetaminophen, and ice can help with alleviation of pain. It is healthy to keep active while you wait for it to go away.
