Droopy Finger (Mallet Finger)
Mallet finger: when the fingertip doesn't straighten after an injury
This is due to rupture of the last bit of tendon that pulls the finger straight
Sometimes the tendon detaches with a small piece of bone.
Mallet finger is a detachment of the last bit of tendon that straightens the finger
Sometimes it detaches with a small piece of bone
The joint has slid out of place
- It's treated with a splint or cast for about 2 months unless the joint slides out of place (see photo), then surgery is considered.
After treating the finger:
- May still droop a bit
- May have a bit of a bump on top
- Can be depended on for any activity
