De Quervian Tendinopathy

How does it feel?

• Sore and tender to push on the thumb side of the wrist

• May be a bit larger / swollen there

• Painful to move the thumb away from the hand

What causes it?

• This is another tunnel tendinopathy like trigger digit

• It arises in healthy people doing healthy things

• It is also seen in new moms

How is is treated?

• It will go away on its own in about a year

• A splint can help keep you comfortable while you wait for it to go away

• It is not clear whether a cortisone injection helps

• Surgery helps to open the tunnel, but there are risks and a recovery period
